How-to: The Alarm Clock Technique
The Alarm Clock Technique is a method which uses false awakenings and frequent reality checks to induce DILDs. As oneironauts are all too aware, electronics don't tend to function correctly in dreams, and can be used to prompt lucidity. For this technique, you'll need a simple LED digital clock by your bedside. As you're laid in bed and preparing to fall asleep, repeat the intention to check your alarm clock whenever you can during the night;
"I will check my alarm clock... I will check my alarm clock..."
Repeat this intention or mantra until you fall asleep.
We all wake for brief moments several times during the night. We also dream of waking up, dreams known as false awakenings. Every time you find yourself seemingly "between dreams", you must check the alarm clock! No matter how tired you are, or how sure you are that you're not in fact asleep - simply take a look at the time. If you're dreaming, the numbers on your digital alarm clock won't display correctly. It's as easy as briefly opening your eyes and glancing at whether you're in a dream.
The longer you practice the Alarm Clock Technique, the more effective it will become as you condition yourself to habitually check your alarm clock during the night.
